Browney’s famous sausage rolls – the perfect recipe for hosting a grand final gathering on a budget

Grand final weekend is my favourite time of year.  I love nothing more than having family and friends around to watch the game and I always make a point of cooking up my famous sausage rolls.  Both kids and adults love them and best of all, they only cost around 50 cents per person.

Grand Final Sausage Rolls

Makes 18 pieces

Ingredients

300g no-name pork sausages, mince squeezed out in to bowl

1 onion, finely chopped

½ cup breadcrumbs

250g beef mince

100g grated veg (whatever you have leftover in the fridge such as carrots, zucchini or sweet potato)

1tbs tomato paste

1tbs worcestershire sauce

2 eggs lightly beaten

3 sheets of no name puff pastry

No name tomato sauce to serve.

Instructions

1   Preheat oven to hot, 200°C and line trays with baking paper

2   In a large bowl, combine sausage mince, grated veggies. Season to taste.

3   Cut each sheet of pastry in half. Shape mixture into 6 long sausages. Race each sausage along one edge of each pastry sheet and roll tightly to seal.

4   Cut each roll into 3 pieces. Brush with egg, place on greased oven trays, about 3cm apart. Score tops of pastry.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and cooked through. Serve with tomato sauce.

Tip: For even better value, buy in bulk at Costco or a similar bulk goods store.
